This Week is Make-or-Break Time for the BYU Cougars
Two weeks off, two weeks on…that’s how it has seemed to go for the Cougars this football season.
Two average games to start the season, two mind-blowing shutouts after that, and two head-scratching snoozefests after that.
But with games remaining at TCU, at Air Force, and at Utah, BYU can ill-afford to continue to play inconsistent football.

Two Future NFL QB’s
The Motor City Bowl turned out to be even better than expected. It was a great shootout with two quarterbacks whom are among the nation’s best. Purdue’s Curtis Painter and Central Michigan’s Dan LeFevour put on a show and showed the country why their names should be among Colt Brennan, Chase Daniel, Tim Tebow, Rudy Carpenter, and Colt McCoy.
The game appeared to be a good lock for the Boilermakers, but never underestimate the Chippewas. They scraped, and fought their way back with a 28-point third quarter. When the dust cleared, Purdue closed the deal with a last second field goal to win 51-48. Now back to the QB’s.
First, Curtis Painter. Painter is a Senior, and with his ability I’d expect him to go pro. How good is he though? Lets’ look at the season numbers: He passed for 3846 yards with a 62.6 completion percentage, 29 TD’s, 11 INT’s, with a final rating of 132.29. Look at his numbers at the Bowl game: 3 TD’s, 2 INT’s. He put up 546 yards with a 64.8 completion percentage.
His team rallied around him as he helped his team hold off a tough CMU team. He should go in to the draft, and if anyone thinks otherwise, I’d ask politely ask you to refrain from using drugs. Painter is a beast, and I think he will make the NFL more exciting.
Now, Dan LaFevour. He is only a sophomore, so lookout MAC! His number on the season are equally impressive. 3652 yards on a 65.4 completion percentage with 27 TD’s, 13 INT’s and a 133.5 ratlng. While his passing numbers are staggering, I look more at his rushing numbers. This season, he also led the Chips in rushing with 1122 yards on 188 carries: that’s 6 yards per carry. He also ran it for 19 TD’s. His numbers as a Freshman were equally impressive.
He led his team in the Motor City Bowl. He did all he possibly could to bring a victory to the Chips with 6 total TD’s (4 passing, 2 rushing). He passed for 292 yards and ran it 114. He is the next up and coming QB through the college ranks, and when he is ready to go pro, he will be amazing. He could be the next Michael Vick, except he can actually pass.
NFL defenses, you are all on notice. When these two are in the league, we will possibly be looking a the two best QB’s the league.
