Florida State’s football program needs a change

36 players won’t be making the trip to the Music City Bowl… 36… 9 times 4… thanks to the cheating scandal, other violations, or injuries.

Earlier this week the school said that 25 players were involved in the cheating scandal. So the other 11 are a mix of rules violations and injuries. What a great move by the PR department: “Let’s keep a guy or two back because of an injury so people assume that the rest of the guys are injured instead of in trouble.”

florida-state.jpgAt any rate, Florida State needs a change. Bobby Bowden ruled the 90s. Suspensions and underachievement have ruled the 2000s.

Bowden has a free pass because he’s a legend. He won’t get fired. He can’t. They’ll change assistants. They’ll fire everyone else… just not him. But he can resign. He can turn the job over to a fresh face and give the program a fresh start.

Now’s the time to do it. Now’s the time to man up and say “Look, this program needs a fresh start.” Then he turns it over to Jimbo Fisher. There would be no shame in that. Clear out the place. Get new faces and new discipline in there.

How much longer must the Seminoles wallow in mediocrity?

Did you hear what test they cheated on? Music History. The irony is fairly delicious.
