Top 5 reasons Les Miles should stay at LSU

434360b5d8407-21-1.jpgsplit-m-maize-bar.gifSo, this week Michigan finally got what they wanted: a talk with LSU head coach Les Miles. Should Les Miles leave LSU for Big Blue? I can think of five reasons to stay.

5. LSU fans are more loyal. Michigan fans will jump ship after one loss. LSU fans stuck it out even after the loss to Kentucky and there is no reason to believe they won’t stick it out even though they will not compete for the title. Michigan fans would have jumped ship after their team’s first loss to Oregon. It just so happened to be that they lost to Appalachian State before Oregon.

4. There is more room for error in the SEC than there is in the Big Ten. Head to toe, there is more talent in the SEC, and therefore more room to lose and still be amazing. In the Big Ten, there is no divisional break-up, and therefore, no Big Ten championship game. LSU lost two games in the SEC and still will play for the SEC title. Michigan also lost two conference games, but were only able to end in a second place tie with Illinois.

3. Les Miles and LSU will face Nick Saban and Alabama in Baton Rogue next season. If he goes to the Big Ten, away from Saban, we will never know who truly is the better coach. I would think Miles would want to take down Saban in his old home with his old team. It would really prove he didn’t just inherit Saban’s team; we would show it was his own. In short, he has more he can prove in LSU.

2. LSU only lost two games this year; both in overtime. If it were the old system, they’d be undefeated! Okay, cheap shot. But hey, Michigan lost four in regulation. Think about this…the Big Ten actually leaves to play tough teams every year from other conferences, like the Pac-10. Michigan brought in Oregon to play them in the Big House and look how that turned out. Anyone in the SEC can hand pick their opponenets because the rest of the conference is so rough anyway. At least that is the excuse. But why refute it? If you can make sure you win all your non-conference games by scheduling ALL cream puffs, and still compete for the nationl title, why not do it?

1. The Big Ten is getting more competitive and Big Blue just is starting to show why they are no longer THE team in the Big Ten. Much like Notre Dame, Michigan focuses on it’s glory days; the days where they were the team to beat. The Wolverines fail to realize that not many outside of Ann Arbor care about what they have done in the past. We want to see what they do NOW, and Michigan has done almost nothing these past seasons to show that they are a team to be cared about NOW. No one in the conference fears them. There is not much doubt that they can be beaten. Especially when you lose to Appalachian St. Yes, I still remember.

LSU is the team to beat NOW. Even when they have two loses, they are still the team to beat and the team everyone looks to as far as setting the mark of greatness goes. The spotlight is now just as big at Baton Rogue as it ever was in Ann Arbor. Why risk losing that?

Got some pretty good points there. But I’m not sure how Michigan fans would react to you questioning their loyalty though…

I would respect your analysis much more if I knew that you understand that the spelling is “loss” not “lose.” Guess Miles should head to Michigan where, at least, they know how to spell.

I would have to cordially disagree with a few of your reasons, but you are entitled to your opinion.

He lost 2 games @ LSU in a tough SEC schedule, is a reason to leave. Big 10 was down this year and they are very top heavy. Instead of playing a good team every month like the Big 10, he plays a good team every week in the SEC. He loves Michigan and will leave. We are finding out that the fans are loyal in the SEC but the coaches are not. :-)

    Great article Mr. Perkins

I disagree with you on the in the following points.

#5. Michigan fans are amongst the loyal in the nation. Even though we started 0-2 with two horrible losses…BLUE was still showing up with 110,000 plus in the stands every game. It’s like Notre Dame…they were still packed out every game in South Bend.

#4. I’ve never believed the SEC’s comments about having an SEC title game. It’s pretty rediculous to think that a team like Tennessee should be playing in a title game after it’s losses, but Georgia gets a BCS bid…makes no sense. Every other conference has an outright conference champion and doesn’t have to play a conference champion game to prove that.

#3. No one really cares about this one…especially Les or Nick. Tell Nicky to get to the NC game and he can meet Les there. Playing Nick Saban next year is an LSU fan’s dream and personal vendetta, not Les Miles or even the University’s

#2. Even though they only lost two games…those games were crucial and many down in Baton Rouge are calling for Les Miles head! Don’t think that coach is not listening. Michigan had a bad year last year and a stellar year the year before (10-1 regular season)…stop comparing a bad year of crucial injuries and a retired coach’s lack of effort as a “sign” of Michigan program going down. We’re Michigan, enough said.

    #1. See above.

    Go Blue!

I’m sure they would. But all I saw from them this year was excuse after excuse, and it all related to Lloyd Carr. They were is sorrow the whole year.

    To Borna Wolverine:

Actually, you were 10-2. USC threw you for a loop and made your team, and your conference, look worse then what we all thought they were. And you can start talking about how great the Wolverines are when they can actually beat OSU who, as of this moment, owns you.

HALF of the BCS conferences have title games: SEC, Big XII and ACC. And did you foget about all of the chatter in the preseason about the Big 10/11 (you guys really need to learn to count up there) looking for one more member…MOST LIKELY so the conference could schedule a CHAMPIONSHIP GAME?!

10-1 in the regular season, he said… he was actually right… but, you are right, Taylor… the Buckeyes own Michigan right now.

We know how to count. The BIG 10 was named that because they had 10 Teams and then not too long ago added an 11th team. You don’t just change a name of a conference because you added a team to your list.(You need to research things before you make an idiot out of yourself)

Anyway, I’m a buckeye fan, so i bet you all are wondering why i’m posting on this in the first place. Well, it’s to inform you all that it doesn’t matter where Les Miles coaches next year. If he chooses to stay at LSU, It’s a smart decision because then he doesn’t have to face being owned by us Buckeyes. On the other hand if he comes to Michigan, you all will see the real coach, or lack there of, that he is because he won’t have the speed and athletic ability that he has at LSU therefore, he will actually have to learn to coach and not rely on his players to get the job done.

I referred to it as the Big Ten. It’s obvious the have eleven teams though; it’s written in their logo. Oh, and I can count too. Besides, I never referred to it as the Big 11.

Do they have a championship game? No. I have my facts right it seems. You seem like you just want to put words in my mouth. That’s fine. After all, you have an opinion, and so do I. Go Buckeyes.

He was referring to the comment by Geaux Colonels, Taylor… no need to go on the defensive.
